A seizure of 200 horses, cows and llamas was well
underway when sheriff’s deputies say the owner of
the livestock suddenly appeared from the woods armed
with a pistol grip shotgun.
Hill County Sheriff Deputies, there to oversee the
siezure, grabbed their guns, chased down, and then
tackled 50 yr old Greg Brinkley.
The Humane Society of North Texas says the horses
were neglected.
Investigators said with 200 head, the 86-acre
property wasn’t large enough to properly care for
them.
Sheriff’s officials counted 29 carcasses and various
piles of bones that had been there for about
3-years.
Detectives described most of the live animals as
severely malnourished.
The complaints from neighbors and others - say
authorities - were numerous.
“Horendous and terrible, I’ve never seen anything
like this in my entire career of law enforcement.”
said Jeffrey Lyon, Hill County Sheriff.
The girlfriend of Greg Brinkley, Rilla Craven, says
the horses weren’t neglected, she said they had a
deadly disease called strangles, a severe bacterial
infection diagnosed by the Glen Rose medical clinic.
Brinkley is charged with 25 counts of animal
cruelty and 2-counts of Attempted Capital Murder.
The horses will be in the care of the Wild Horse
Foundation at a Ranch in Mart.
