"THE CAPTURE"

While it's very important to remember that the Virginia Range Horses are important to our existence, these to come under the very same fire that the BLM horses do.  These horses in fact share the same range and cross over the "line" without fear, until now. Congress has made it there business again to tell us what is our business!

The wild horses come down out of the mountains during the hard cold months and feed on vegetation around the homes.  The fence is for the house's protection.  Horse's see a reflection like in a dark colored vehicle they will kick and paw at it breaking or destroying the object.

As the evidence is clear, these wild horses are being feed by the locals up in the hills.  The State of Nevada allows this during a few months of the year.   This keeps the State and neighbors in good graces with each other.

With Mike Holmes in lead we are returning to a feed-trap he set for a few horses. This neighbor enjoys the horses but sometimes "welcomes" get worn out.

As this shows, now is the time to not startle the one standing outside the gate opening.  As you will see Mike and Ray ease up to the gate to keep them in.  One wrong move and they'd be out and gone for another day.

Well Mike did it, again.  He was able to move up and in for the closure.  I think the truck is little to close for the gate,  Mike shuts the inside pen gate for the time being.

As you can see Mike makes the outside gate.

As you can see the bait-trap system works without harming any of the wild horses.

As you can see several of the mares have already had there foals.  There is a big, beautiful black stallion in this band.

This black stallion is being watched by Sherry of the VRWPS and requests that this stud be returned to the mountains.  The State of Nevada and VRWPS have an agreement to keep a strong band of horses in the Virginia Hills.  Mike, Ray and Sherry observe this group as they continue eating.

Ray starts working the horses into the trailer.  Mike is in the back ground separating some panels pens so we can close the panels in smaller to encourage the horses to get into the trailer with harm or threat from themselves or us.

At this point, the horses are investigating the new trailer for their ride.  It's important to remember not to spook or crowd them.  This is the first time they have ever seen the inside of any trailer.

They make it in slowly but surely.  It's important to remember that all wild horses are to arrive in the same manner they are captured.  Unscarred, unscaved.  Mike does this day in and day out and should be commended for his hard work.

The last one makes her way, she insists on her young foal going first.

Ray and Mike talk about the direction these wild horses will take now.

You can help by donating to help protect these horses and many others.
