Wild Horse Foundation
New Horse arrives Jan. 19. 2006
((( WARNING GRAPHIC IN NATURE)))
It is never the intention of sending any ill-horse to another agency or non-profit but it happens sometimes. All horses received here at the foundation are always accepted as a general rule so that we may place these into better homes than where they came from.
As a defense for the State of Nevada, they are under no obligation like the BLM-Federal Government, to protect these wild horses even though in many cases they come from the same herd area. These may cross areas that are commonly shared and sometimes its hundreds of miles between these herds.
If you may recall last year, we received Christmas Gift who was adopted by Dr. Wagner, one of our vets, whom took extremely great care of her. She was sent here with club feet then treated as contacted tendons in any case, was obvious of her injury but the State of Nevada didn't want to put her down, they sent her here.
Again, We are glad to assist and help the State of Nevada. Their program shows that they are willing to send wild horses across the country in order to help them receive better care than they may get there.
Dr. Wagner came out for us and look this yearling over and prescribed a specific treatment. Antibiotics and daily care, hydro-treatments twice a day she should recovery in and estimated time of 3-6 months depending on conditions. She will reevaluate this horse in 10-12 days for further treatments.

While this has not been deemed a life threatening injury it should have never been shipped across 5 state lines to Texas. |
As this yearling came in with a swollen chest and shoulder/leg, she bit into this on Friday the day after she arrived here and then this evolved on Saturday into this massive area. |

After several treatments of hydro cleaning and heavy antibiotics this baby may have a good chance of recovery and a very normal life. Recover time is 3 - 6 months. |
With the water hose inside her cleaning thoroughly by flushing out any unnatural particles, she stand for treatment like a trooper. She has let us treat her without reservation and standing calm. |

The hydro treatment cleans extremely well. |
While trying to betadine wash this wound the little yearling turns and investigates what we are putting on her by smelling and watching. She has been an excellent trooper to go through this and still love all. |
