Here I use towels to dry the baby off. In most cases you can use dry hay. This keeps a natural smell on the baby and cuts down on rejection. From time to time, mares will disown their foals. |

At this point I'm drying off the new born to prevent any chance of pneumonia from occurring. When the temperature drops below freezing we take all precautions. |

Here, "Sunrise" tries to get up. In the wild or captivity the foals always try and get up as soon as possible for there own safety from predators. |
